Description

Location: For growing indoors,pots,trays with virtually any horizontal surface.You can grow it in your indoor plant pots.Regarding growing outdoors, this can be your lawn or a garden bed.

Substrate: 50/50 mixes of  straw or sawdust or coconut coir with horse or cow manure. For indoor growing,  substrate needs to be pasteurised and you can buy animal manure from store which has been pasteurised. The easiest way is to mix spawn with compost.

How big this mushrooms patch: This 1kg spawn can inoculate up to 1 square meter. More spawn used will speed up the inoculation process.

Cultivation method: Spread the spawn over the ground,and then cover the spawn with a layer of compost. Or  ‘seed’ the spawn directly into your lawn by digging  holes in the soil and stuffing some spawn into it.

Maintenance: The key is to keep the substrate moisturised. For the first few days just water the patch, especially when the weather has been dry. The patch can be topped up with compost once or twice a year to keep it going.

How long does it take to fruit and how long does it last? It takes a few months before producing its first crop and it will produce in the same bed for several years.

Storing of spawn: Use it when it is fully or almost fully colonised. Keep it in the dark if it is hasn’t fully colonised. Once it is fully colonised If you don’t plan to use immediately, refrigerate your wine Cap sawdust spawn. Use within 6 months of the purchase date.

When to harvest it: You should harvest them before their caps start to become bell-shaped and begin to turn inky.
